Floral Bar & Mott Street Floral Workshop

Fall is my favorite time of year, and this year is no exception. There’s a smell in the air that entices a sense of nostalgia; a feeling I can’t always pinpoint but displaces you to a different time. The enigma of fall is the life cycle: bright greenery seeming to die out and the cold nights wiping away any proof of life. I feel like the opposite could be said for this time of year as well, as the colors of autumn are warm and inviting; hues of red, orange, and yellow on the trees paint a tantalizing landscape like they do every year. The same can be said for autumnal plantings.

The autumn season brings us to life at Floral Bar, and sharing the love of beautiful plants is the heart of what we do! Vibrant tones of chrysanthemums, asters, and ornamental kale become the stars of seasonal flower arrangements, and mums are the perfect complement to the pumpkins and gourds on your front porch. It's also a great time of year start your perennial garden!! (The best time of year to do this is FALL!) Don’t forget to plant your bulbs this autumn season so you’re greeted with joy after a long winter - stay tuned for details on all thing's bulbs and perennials!

Speaking of kicking off the fall season, have you heard of Mott Street Restaurant in Chicago? They’re an incredible Asian-Fusion restaurant in the Wicker Park neighborhood, and Floral Bar is teaching a pumpkin arrangement class there so you can make your own fall-inspired piece!

There's an art that goes into creating floral arrangements and we have you covered at this class! You should check out this event to make an Instagram-worthy pumpkin arrangement, grab a bite off their menu, and enjoy the crisp autumn weather that comes and goes too quickly. The Crispy Chili Cauliflower on their menu looks ah-mazing, by the way.

This is a gorgeous example of what you could be making at Mott Street Restaurant!!

The fall season calls for all the cozy sweaters, pumpkin arrangements, movies and the natural beauty that emanates from the world outside. This what truly inspires our fall arrangements and plantings. We want your garden to remain alive and vibrant for as long as possible by introducing these autumnal masterpieces, however, fall is also the perfect time to prepare for spring! Planting in the fall not only allows for stronger root development but also sets the stage for a stunning spring display. Our garden experts will be able to give specific recommendations, create personalized arrangements, and answer all questions regarding your plants and flowers. Arrangements featuring deep reds, burnt oranges, and golden yellows evoke the essence of the season, while dried elements like grasses and seed pods add texture and interest. With careful planning, fall plantings can create a lasting tapestry of color that bridges the transition from summer to winter.

As September comes to a close, we wave goodbye to most of the leaves on the trees and any hope of a warm morning. In my opinion, autumn has a different kind of warmth: soups, spices, a hot latte, and your favorite old cardigan that been packed away since the spring are what make this time of year in the Midwest the absolute best! I hope the last few days of September get you in the mood for the true start of this autumn season! Happy Sunday, everyone! See you next week!

XOXO,

Alyssa & The Floral Bar Team
